WHAT THE FOOD INDUSTRY DOES NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THE FOODS YOU ARE EATING.

Do you know that most of us are starving? Not from a lack of food. This starvation is more insidious. It is from a lack of nutrients.

Agricultural practices have changed radically in the last 100 years. Food production has been taken over by corporations. Technology has changed the way our food is produced. Are we paying a deadly price for this "progress"?

One hundred years ago cancer, heart disease, and diabetes were rare. We were not assaulted by hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified organisms, high fructose corn syrup, and other toxic ingredients with every bite. Grocery stores were not filled with fake food masquerading as real. We did not have to take handfuls of supplements to try to keep us healthy, nor search for organic foods.

Today we are completely confused by news releases, pseudo-scientific studies and conflicting information about what foods to eat to keep us healthy. Overfed and Undernourished cuts through the confusion. In an easy to understand, straight-to-the-point manner you will discover

* the toxic foods and ingredients to eliminate from your diet
* some of the historical and societal changes that influence how we eat today
* how the takeover of food production by giant corporations results in inferior food
* the techniques used to influence our food choices
* why your trip to the supermarket can be detrimental to your health
 * the little known flavor industry that makes inferior, bland foods taste sooo good
* the characteristics of healthy foods, and
* where to find the foods that will nourish you and keep you healthy

If you would like to know the basic principles that have enabled people to stay healthy into their 9th and 10th decade, this book is for you. Armed with this information you will be on your way to bring well fed and well nourished. Get your copy of Overfed and Undernourished today and end your search for the keys to healthy eating.

I picked up this book expecting to find some basic information about eating better. However, I wasn't prepared to find the incredible depth of information that this book contains. I think we all know about the problems in eating things like sugar substitutes and white flour products - but this book goes far beyond in detailing the problems associated with these common foods. The chapter on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) was eye-opening and made me regret even further that the bill in California to have genetically modified food labeled as such was defeated.

Valuable for me was the section on how to navigate through all the nutritionally-deficient food to find stuff that's actually health (and it's quite a challenge). I appreciate the info on the various types of beef, chicken, eggs, etc., that can appear to be healthy but are not.

All-in-all, an eye-opener. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to improve their health.

Overfed and Undernourished Taking The Confusion Out Of Healthy Eating Elizabeth Gibbons 9781463777852 Books Reviews

You can easily find out what is wrong with our Western based diet through this book, but that is fairly easy to find. I was looking for help with the solution, what is the best for me and my family to eat. That is not answered in this book, but if you really want to read a downer about what is available to you from the grocery store, go ahead and read it.
Natural health is a hobby of mine and I read a lot of natural health books. I like this book because it contains a summary of all the guidelines I have learned over the years from many different sources into one concise volume.

If you are only going to read one book to guide you about what you should and should not be eating for optimum health, this would be a good one.
The author provides a wonderful condensed version of the principles that lead to a healthier digestive system and thereby overall improved health. This resource would be a great way to answer the questions many people have about the processed foods Americans eat but help them also understand the importance of probiotic foods for building digestive health. It's a wonderful introductory guide with lots of resources provided for further research for moms and dads who have have children with autism and learning disabilities as well as people battling auto-immune disorders (arthritis, Hashimoto Thyroiditis, multiple sclerosis and others). The food Americans eat is actually making us sick and dumbing down our children and creating their troubling behaviors and learning disabilities. These are strong words but unfortunately, true. This author provides a guide to help someone navigate the truths and untruths about fermented foods and raw dairy products, as well. (Yes, properly prepared fermented foods and raw dairy foods are important to our health.) Eat the way our grandparents did and you will reap the health benefits!
This easy-to-read and understand book is a real eye-opener about the food choices we now have. The author explains the circumstances about how and why various products are used in our food and the feed for food animals, and she goes over what the disadvantages and possible side effects can be to humans and our health. The author also outlines some (much healthier!!) alternatives to GMO foods, foods with HFCS, meats and poultry and fish fed too many hormones and pesticide-ridden fodder that pass along to us, and she links many commonly-used food additives, dyes and artificial sweeteners to diseases such as ADD, Type II diabetes, obesity and others. It's time we all took a SERIOUS look at what we are REALLY consuming and fight to return our foodstuffs to as much ORIGINAL states as possible. Ms. Gibbons has written a real expose about our food, and it is sure to make you think TWICE and even more before going through that drive-thru or buying foods without checking the labels or sources of where that food comes from and what has been done to it. BRAVA, Ms. Gibbons, for a well-written and brave book.
I downloaded this yesterday on my iPad ( app) and am enjoying it so far. Disclosure I was the author's landlord for several years, so I know her personally. The books description of her accident, medical issues and recovery is right on target - she knows what she's talking about, and her suggestions could be helpful to many people.
This is a very comprehensive book which explains why we can be nutritionally deficient while still eating a large amount of food. It doesn't just tell you what to eat and what not to eat, but explains exactly why. The book makes the point that the human metabolism and digestive systems have changed very little since the cave man era but out foods have changed dramatically, mainly for the benefit of food manufacturers' pockets!
I do know a fair bit about nutrition, but still learned a lot, especially about the meat industry - holy cow! (pun intended).
The only part of this book I did not read was the part about soy. Being lactose intolerant I'm obliged to drink soy milk, I simply didn't want to know!
I have read a lot about eating in a healthy way. I mean, a LOT! And this book encompasses all of the logical and well-thought-out information I have found elsewhere. It also suggests that you use your body wisdom to determine the best foods for you and has lots of references to back up what it says. It also has good stories to back up the benefits of eating properly. It also covers the backgrounds of various food and food-like substances. Want to know why certain people on the high seas got scurvy? Want to know how to stay well? Highly recommended for anyone who wants to feel better, live longer and healthier!
