Very easy reading. Describes what it is like for a teenager who is paralyzed in a car accident - I like that it went into what she was feeling emotionally, instead of focused on the physical. I know this is fiction though it seemed like it probably parallels what Chelsea dealt with (not necessarily details like boyfriends but the emotional side)

This definitely isn't my go-to genre but I thought I'd give it a try... and I'm so glad that I did! Fantastically written book with both loveable and loathe-able characters. This book made me giggle, gasp, roll my eyes and cry a little too. Every teenaged emotion is captured so perfectly that you can just imagine yourself in each character's shoes. Loved it so much that I'm getting my 16-year-old niece a signed copy for Christmas. I can't wait to share this wonderful story with her (and my daughter when she's old enough.) A fun, quick read with a positive message for all ages.
I really loved Push Girl! When I was younger, apparently I was weird and read a lot of Lurlene McDaniel (LOL). While the book was in a similar vein (teenagers trying to cope with grief, major life changes, etc.), Kara read as a much more realistic teenager. Her story focuses not only on how she deals with her new life, but also her friends, school, and parents. I also appreciated that it wasn't an easy journey for Kara - so often these stories are told in an almost saccharine way, but the book was written in a much more relatable way. I felt like Kara would be a friend of mine.

It was a wonderful, inspiring read - I can't more highly recommend Push Girl!
I really enjoyed this compelling, uplifting tale of a girl who had everything going for her then had her life change in a split-second -- and how she coped and adjusted to what happened. I found the writing so authentic and the characters so very real. I KNEW some of these people in high school (and still know many of them now!).

I want to note as well that this book is so much more than can be pigeonholed into a niche or genre. I'm in my 30s and don't have a disability but I connected with some of the characters so well and really enjoyed this read. And unlike a lot of the books I read for every age, I really liked that not every character was of the same race. As a mixed-race person, I enjoy reading about people who I can envision look more like me than the typical book character.
This is a great book for teens and adults alike because it shows the life of someone who is disabled after a terrible accident, but never gets too preachy or too depressing. There are so few books about teens in wheelchairs (or with any disability, really), and reading this completely opened my eyes to what life might be like for someone in Kara's position. Though the book is sad at times, it's also funny and romantic and sweet, and ultimately hopeful and empowering. Definitely recommended for all fans of contemporary YA!
I fully expected to like this book, but I did not expect to read at least half of it through the tears welling up in my eyes. There were so many beautiful and heartbreakingly real moments that I could not stop thinking about it even when I set it down for the night.

From the very beginning I felt like I was in Kara's skin. I really appreciated that Jessica Love didn't shy away from the uglier sides of Kara's experience. Kara's anger, confusion, loss, and newfound resentment for the word "normal" made her relatable.

My favorite part of this book though, was Amanda and Jack, particularly Kara's friendships with them. Even though Kara had sort of sidelined them when she was dating Curt, the way they were there for her after the accident and helped her navigate through the new realities of her situation made my heart grow three sizes.

Loved, loved, loved this.
Kara's story goes from normal teenage drama to life altering in a few pages. Through the eyes of a wheelchair bound person, you learn of the physical and emotional struggles most people have never had to go through. The range of emotions Kara experiences as she deals with being paralyzed rings true for the situation. Despite the heavy subject matter, this book conveys the seriousness of Kara's new life without being overly depressing by successfully weaving in sweet, lighthearted moments throughout.

Nothing makes you fly through the pages of a book better than characters that draw you in from the start. This book does a great job at creating such individuality with each character and connecting you to them emotionally. Kara is likable from the first paragraph. Her BFF Amanda is the supporting best friend you'd expect her to be. And Jack, oh man adorable Jack, with his patience and continued support he makes your heart melt.

By the end of the story, Kara realizes the important things in life—paralyzed or not—are friends, family, love and how you chose to live. PUSH GIRL is an honest story that takes you from a place of tragedy to inspiration and not only should teens read this book, adults should too.
